Finding homes for sale in Plano Texas is a simple process if only you are presented with the accurate data and information you need to compile a search of homes in Plano, TX.

This city began in the early 1940's in the Republic of Texas.  Many early pioneers migrated from places like Kentucky and Tennessee in small groups of settlers that found their way to Collin County in search of a new home.  The first attempts at settlement of the area began in 1841, but progress was halted by Indian attached until 1844.  These settlements were widely scattered in 1844 and only a few were made in 1845.  In 1846, William Forman became the owner of Peter's Colony land and settled a half mile northeast of the city.  The creation of this city was due in part to the efforts of the Foreman family.  They erected a sawmill and gristmill that would be in demand by all.  Later a store and gin were added and these attracted many settlers to the area.  Many people came to help form a community.  Dr. Henry Dye came to settle in 1848 as the areas first doctor.  Mail service was established around 1850 and Williams Foreman's home became the unofficial post office.  Around this time, Dr. Dye felt the need for a property name for the community and sent an application requesting the name of Fillmore, in honor of the president of the united states.  The name Fillmore was rejected and Forman was suggested in its place.  This was declined by William Foreman.  Not to be discouraged, Dr. Dye suggested the name Plano.  His understanding was that this word was the Spanish word for "plain" which described the surrounding terrain.  Postal authorities approved the name and it  become the name of the community. William Forman was happy to serve as the first postmaster.

Raising livestock was the principal business in the counter, but more and more of the populace began to farm.  Churches and schools were built as local business began to prosper.  Growth was steady through the 1850's but slowed with the arrival of the Civil War.  As the men began to return to pick up their run down farms and get back to their day to day lives, more and more businesses and trade began to attract new people to the area.

Throughout must of the 1900's the city has relied on surrounding farms and ranches for its livelihood.  During the 1960's, the growth of Dallas and the success of several large technology firms began to make their influence felt on the local economy and city planners ushered in the inevitable growth.  In the 1970's, this area was recognized as one of the fastest growing cities in Texas and the U.S.

The  completion of the Houston and Texas Railroad in 1872 brought new growth to the area.  By 1874 the areas population grew to over 500.  This was the first depot by rail when entering Collin County from the south.  The city was incorporated in June of 1873 and the towns first mayor was C.J.E. Kellner.
